History of ragdolls

The ragdoll cats were first bred in the 1960s by a woman named Ann Baker in California. She bred the White Angora cat With a Birman cat, and the offspring of this cat were born with unique traits such as blue eyes, soft and silky fur, and affectionate nature. The cats were named Ragdoll because they had a tendency to go limp when picked up. They curled just like a doll made of clothes or Rags. These cats became popular, and demand is growing to the day.

Different color patterns of ragdolls:

Color point Ragdolls

A color point Ragdoll cat has dark shades at the ears, tail, legs, and face. Color point Ragdoll comes in chocolate, red, lilac, blue, and seal colors.

Mitted Ragdolls

A color point cat that has white paws and a chest is called a mitted Ragdoll cat.

Bi-color Ragdolls

A bi-color Ragdoll cat has an inverted V shape on their forehead. They also have more fur as compared to other Ragdoll cats.

Lynx Ragdolls

A lynx Ragdoll cat can have features of a mitted, color point, or Bicolor ragdoll cat but have spotting and markings on the face, tail, and legs.

Sepia

Sepia Ragdolls are a rare color variation within the Ragdoll breed, distinguished by their warm, rich coat colors. Their unique appearance, resulting from specific genetic factors, contributes to their scarcity compared to more common Ragdoll colors. This makes sepia highly sought out because of the rarity.

Lilac

Lilac Ragdolls are considered relatively rare compared to more common Ragdoll colors such as blue and chocolate. This rarity is due in part to the specific genetic combinations required to produce the lilac coloration, which is a diluted form of the chocolate gene. As a result, breeders may have fewer litters that yield lilac kittens, making them less frequently available than other color variations. Consequently, those looking to adopt or purchase a lilac Ragdoll may find them to be a unique an

HIGH-QUALITY NUTRITION

RESPONSIBLE BREEDING PRACTICES

HEALTH AND GENETIC TESTING

All cats require a balanced and nutritious diet to thrive. However, Ragdolls and Maine Coons are known for their larger size and luxurious coats, which demand specific dietary needs. I offer High-quality cat food such as cooked and raw organic hormone-free chicken. I also offer other foods formulated for their high nutritional requirements. This  is more expensive than regular cat food. Additionally, Ragdolls and Maine Coons can have sensitive stomachs that require additional attention and investment.

HEALTH AND GENETIC TESTING

RESPONSIBLE BREEDING PRACTICES

HEALTH AND GENETIC TESTING

Reputable cat breeders prioritize the health and well-being of their cats. I invest in genetic testing to ensure my breeding cats are free from hereditary diseases, such as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) and polycystic kidney disease (PKD). These tests help maintain the breed's overall health and reduce the risk of passing on genetic conditions to future generations.

RESPONSIBLE BREEDING PRACTICES

RESPONSIBLE BREEDING PRACTICES

Reputabe cat breeders invest significant time, effort, and resources into breeding healthy and well-socialized kittens. They ensure that their breeding cats are of exceptional quality, which includes providing them with proper nutrition, veterinary care, and a nurturing environment. These responsible breeding practices contribute to the higher cost of Ragdoll kittens.

RISKS OF BUYING CHEAP KITTENS

People want to purchase cheap Ragdoll or Maine Coon kittens and then end up paying for it in higher vet bills when they receive a sick kitten or one that develops a genetic disease. A reputable breeder like Desert Darlings offers a health guarantee. I see people posting all the time that they just got a kitten from a less reputable breeder because they cost less and now their kitten is very sick or passed away. I stand behind the health of my kittens.

VALUE OF INVESTING IN A HIGH QUALITY CAT

It's important to remember that the higher price of Ragdolls and Maine Coons reflects the dedication and commitment of responsible breeders to produce healthy, well-adjusted cats. By investing in a High quality kitten, you are not only bringing home a beautiful companion but also supporting the preservation and betterment of the breed.

Ultimately, the cost of owning a Ragdoll is a reflection of the love, care, and resources required to provide them with a happy and healthy life. While the initial investment may seem higher, the joy and companionship they bring are priceless.

You get what you pay for.

Is ragdoll or Maine Coon cat the right choice for you?

Both Maine Coons and Ragdolls have a calm temperament and affectionate nature; they follow around their owners all day long like dogs. They both  have a friendly nature, and they are always ready for cuddles. They are playful and needy when it comes to attention and human touch.
